Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to join the Advanced Learning Technologies Lab at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (ALT Lab), led by Prof. Ivon Arroyo. The position is funded for 1 year (renewable up to 3 years). The successful candidate will work with Dr. Ivon Arroyo and a research team at WPI and across universities in New England on several research projects involving math tutoring systems for K-12 level, computational thinking, and embodied cognition, that integrate cognitive perspectives as well as metacognitive and affective perspectives of student learning, as well as supporting teachers to understand their students better.
The post-doc in Learning Sciences and Technologies will work with a team of faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students, carrying out studies in public schools using these learning technologies, supporting data collection, data extraction, and data analysis, generation of models and carrying out statistical (and/or machine learning-based) data analyses to answer research questions, as well as publishing research articles. The post-doc will be mentored towards publication and grant writing, and will be given chances to lead meetings and teach classes if desired.
The ideal candidate has great organization and communication skills, and a Ph.D. in Psychology, or Learning Sciences, or Intelligent Systems or HCI/Computer Science/AI, with experience at the edge of Learning Sciences, Computer Science, Psychology and Mathematics Education, and the desire to work with K-12 level students as they learn mathematics and/or computational thinking with novel learning technologies, as well as helping teachers to implement technologies and obtain assessments provided by the software.
