Earthquake Rebuild: Designing Intrinsic Integration of Learning and Gaming
Fengfeng Ke
I will report on a design-based study that examines core game mechanics that enable an intrinsic integration of domain-specific learning in Earthquake Rebuild, a 3D epistemic simulation game.
Project: Homepage, NSF Award #1318784 – EXP: “Earthquake Rebuild” – Mathematical Thinking and Learning via Architectural Design and Modeling
Computational Thinking and Games
Jodi Asbell-Clarke
I will discuss the construct of Computational Thinking (CT) and how games are being used to help support CT using examples such as The Logical Journey of the Zoombinis and Human Resource Machine.
Project: Homepage, NSF Award #1502882 – Zoombinis: The Full Development Implementation Research Study of a Computational Thinking Game for Upper Elementary and Middle School Learners
Empowering Learners to Conduct Experiments in Playful Virtual Environments
Amy Hoover
I will present the playful platform Mad Science, which is a model of an environment where learners can authentically act as scientists to create, modify, and replicate experiments, recruit participants, and analyze their results to learn about the world.
