What are learning engineers and why do we need them? How do you prepare people to be learning engineers? What might a degree program in learning engineering be like? Join us to explore such questions in a forum with Bror Saxberg, Chief Learning Officer at Kaplan, Inc.
Dr. Saxberg has written provocatively about the need for not just learning scientists to conduct research on how people learn, but also for learning engineers who work pragmatically to advance the quality of learning materials and approaches, based both on learning theory and big data. Further, CIRCL’s Partnering for Impact program has interviewed many leaders in industry, and found a rapidly growing job market for learning engineers and an opportunity for learning scientists to have an impact by shaping the preparation of learning engineers. In this inaugural forum, CIRCL invites the Cyberlearning community to come together to discuss this future workforce and impact opportunity.
Dr. Saxberg will stimulate our conversation with his views, from an industry perspective, on:
- Where technology is headed at Kaplan and in education generally;
- What key research problems remain to be solved; and
- Why we need a new discipline of “learning engineering.”
Format: Webinar + Chat + Twitter
The session will be broadcast live, with questions from remote attendees encouraged via chat in the Webex webinar. There will also be a backchannel discussion on twitter with the hashtag #LearnEngr during and after the webinar.
